History and Founding
The Beginning of UCT
The University College of Technology was established after a one-year feasibility study undertaken by a group of Somali intellectuals and technology professionals.
UCT formally became operational in January 2015 as a private higher education institution in Mogadishu, Somalia.
Innovation
UCT was founded on the belief that access to technology education should not be limited by circumstance.
The founders considered it their responsibility to share the knowledge and opportunities they had received and to help educate a new generation of Somali students.
Their ambition was to contribute to closing Somalia’s technology gap by preparing educated, capable, and responsible professionals and future leaders.
The Founders’ Journey
The founders of UCT were among the Somali students who left the country during the civil conflict and later settled in Europe.
They continued their education in the United Kingdom, where they studied computer science and witnessed the rapid development of the internet, email, digital communication, and modern information technology.
After building their academic and professional experience, the founders recognised the importance of extending similar opportunities to students in Somalia.
Our Continuing Purpose
Since becoming operational in 2015, UCT has continued to focus on technology-led higher education.
Through programmes in Software Engineering, Networking and Cyber Security, and Animation and Visual Effects, the university works to prepare graduates who can participate in and contribute to the digital economy.
